News From Home
During World War II, a committee of mostly WMW employees produced a newsletter called News from Home, starting in November 1942 and ending in December 1945.
This was sent to the town's service men and women serving around the world. I have included them here because I think that they belong aside the SPINDLE and it's important that today's generations see them. They give an interesting insight into how things were at that time. Viewers from Northbridge and the surrounding area are bound to recognize some of the names in these issues.
Many of the issues were scanned by me. After scanning, I donated the originals to the Museum of World War II - Boston. Other issues were provided by Linda Bouley.
After the last issue of NFH, the committee decided it had another goal to achieve. With funds left over, an album was put together and sent off to a publisher and the result is shown below. Most households in town had a copy of this book. I was fortunate enough to receive a “like new” copy from Spaulding Aldrich while I was Veteran’s Services Director. After a long and hard decision, I decided to sacrifice this copy to scan and provide for all to see. I had to dissect pages to get the best scan. I knew that Spaulding would approve as he would have wanted it made available.
